Exploring and Making Sense of Large Graphs

چکیده
Graphs naturally represent information ranging from links between webpages, to friendships in social networks, to connections between neurons in our brains. These graphs often span billions of nodes and interactions between them. Within this deluge of interconnected data, how can we find the most important structures and summarize them? How can we efficiently visualize them? How can we detect anomalies that indicate critical events, such as an attack on a computer system, disease formation in the human brain, or the fall of a company? To gain insights into these problems, this thesis focuses on developing scalable, principled discovery algorithms that combine globality with locality to make sense of one or more graphs. In addition to our fast algorithmic methodologies, we also contribute graph-theoretical ideas and models, and real-world applications in two main areas: • Single-Graph Exploration: We show how to interpretably summarize a single graph by identifying its important graph structures. We complement summarization with inference, which leverages information about few entities (obtained via summarization or other methods) and the network structure to efficiently and effectively learn information about the unknown entities. • Multiple-Graph Exploration: We extend the idea of single-graph summarization to time-evolving graphs, and show how to scalably discover temporal patterns. Apart from summarization, we claim that graph similarity is often the underlying problem in a host of applications where multiple graphs occur (e.g., temporal anomaly detection, discovery of behavioral patterns), and we present principled, scalable algorithms for aligning networks and measuring their similarity. We leverage techniques from diverse areas, such as matrix algebra, graph theory, optimization, information theory, machine learning, finance, and social science, to solve real-world problems. We have applied our exploration algorithms to massive datasets, including a Web graph of 6.6 billion edges, a Twitter graph of 1.8 billion edges, brain graphs with up to 90 million edges, collaboration, peer-to-peer networks, browser logs, all spanning millions of users and interactions.

A NEW MULTIPLE CRITERIA DECISION-MAKING METHOD BASED ON BIPOLAR FUZZY SOFT GRAPHS
In this research study, we present a novel frame work for handling bipolar fuzzy soft information by combining bipolar fuzzy soft sets with graphs. We introduce several basic notions concerning bipolar fuzzy soft graphs and investigate some related properties. We also consider the application of the bipolar fuzzy soft graphs. In particular, three efficient algorithms are developed to solve mult...
متن کاملThe relationship between sense of power, sense of status and status seeking style with self-beneficial and other-beneficial unethical decision-making
Unethical decision making could be divided to selfish or self-benefical and other-benefical forms. The aim of this study was to investigate the differential rehationship between sense of power, sense of status and status seeking styles ( dominance and prestige) with two forms of unethical decision-making.The result of this study supported the conceptual distinction between two forms of unethica...
متن کاملDesigning and Presenting of a Model of Sense Making in Service Organizations
Organizational sense making is the process that helps managers to understand how organization's members change ideas and eventually what they chose, maintain and achieve among different meanings. This study examines and presents a model of sense making in service organizations and results in addition to the research community in other service organizations such as municipalities and municipal ...
متن کاملCERTAIN TYPES OF EDGE m-POLAR FUZZY GRAPHS
In this research paper, we present a novel frame work for handling $m$-polar information by combining the theory of $m-$polar fuzzy sets with graphs. We introduce certain types of edge regular $m-$polar fuzzy graphs and edge irregular $m-$polar fuzzy graphs. We describe some useful properties of edge regular, strongly edge irregular and strongly edge totally irregular $m-$polar fuzzy graphs. W...
متن کاملExploring the Sense of Place Components in Historic Districts: A Strategy for Urban Designers and Architects
Historical fabrics are known as a national heritage and treasure which are full of spiritual and human concepts. However, we are witnessing that many of these historic districts are being forgotten, abandoned and destructed as the emotional relationship between human and its residing place is fading out. Sense of place is a concept which focuses on the emotional and internal relation between pe...
